Gambling budget planner: your limits in rand
This gambling budget planner turns the rand you can spare in a month into two numbers to ask Springbok for: a monthly deposit limit and a daily one. Type in your amount and your play days, then copy the request it writes. Nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere.

Rand budget planner
Start with the money you could lose this month without missing a bill. The planner turns it into the daily or monthly deposit limits to ask Springbok for, and writes the request for you.
What is left after rent, food, transport, debt payments and savings. If the honest answer is R0, the planner will say so.
Fewer play days means a lower daily limit and more days off.
Only used to fill in the message below. It never leaves this page.
R0 is an answer too. If there is nothing spare this month, a deposit limit is not enough: a self-exclusion break or a call to 0800 006 008 fits better.
Springbok says limits are set by contacting Springbok: send this in live chat or to help@springbokcasino.co.za. Springbok Casino, checked 9 October 2026
The planner treats your monthly amount as the monthly limit. It divides that amount by your play days to get the daily limit, rounding down to the nearest R10 when the result is R50 or more, and to the nearest rand when it is smaller. Rest days are a 30-day month minus your play days.
| Monthly amount and play days | Daily limit | Rest days |
|---|---|---|
| R400 over 4 days | R100 | 26 |
| R1,000 over 8 days | R120 | 22 |
| R1,500 over 6 days | R250 | 24 |
| R300 over 10 days | R30 | 20 |
Worked examples of the planner's own arithmetic, not suggested amounts. In each case the monthly limit is the amount itself.
Finding the amount you can afford to lose
The planner is only as honest as the number you start with.
Start from your take-home pay and take away everything that has to be paid this month. What is left is your spending money for the whole month, and gambling should be a slice of it, not all of it. A braai with friends, data top-ups, a movie and a birthday gift all draw on the same pot.
An example month, in rand
- Take-home pay
- R15,000: salary, wages or other income as it lands in your account
- Housing
- R5,200: rent or bond, rates and levies
- Food and household
- R3,400: groceries, toiletries, cleaning products
- Transport
- R1,800: fares, petrol, car repayments
- Debt instalments
- R1,200: store cards, personal loans, credit card minimums
- Fixed bills
- R1,600: electricity, water, airtime and data, insurance, school fees
- Savings
- R800: a fixed amount for emergencies, even a small one
- Left for spending
- R1,000: pay minus every line above
An illustration only. Use your own figures from your bank statement.
In that example month, R1,000 has to cover every treat and outing. Setting aside R300 or R400 of it for gambling keeps room for the rest. Put R400 and four play days into the planner and it suggests R400 a month and R100 a day.
Why a daily and a monthly deposit limit
The monthly limit caps the total. The daily limit stops a single bad night from swallowing the whole month in one go, which is how most budgets break. Springbok says it sets daily or monthly deposit limits, arranged by contacting Springbok, so ask for both in the same message. If support can only apply one, keep the monthly one; that is what the planner's message asks for.

Hello Springbok support,
Please lower the deposit limits on my account, username [username], to [amount] per month and [amount] per day, starting today.
Please confirm by email once the new limits are active, and tell me how a request to raise a limit would be handled, so I know in advance.
Thank you.
Springbok does not publish how it handles changes to a limit, so ask and keep the answer.
Making the budget hold between sessions
A number on a screen works best with a few habits around it.
Habits that help
- Choose your play days now and mark them in your calendar.
- Set a timer for each session as well as a rand amount.
- Count what you deposit, not what the balance shows at its peak.
- Pay every essential before the first deposit of the month.
Habits that break budgets
- Topping up after the daily limit is reached.
- Moving money from next month to keep playing this month.
- Depositing from a credit card, an overdraft or borrowed money.
- Raising the limit on the same day you hit it.
Remember that a casino game is built so the house keeps a share of what is staked over time. The planner's monthly figure is what an evening of entertainment costs you, not money set aside to grow.
Your monthly budget check-in
At the end of each month, compare what happened with what you planned.
| What happened | What it may mean | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| You stayed inside both limits | The numbers suit you | Keep them as they are; a month that went to plan is not a reason to raise them |
| You hit the monthly limit in the first week | The amount may be too high, or play is speeding up | Lower the limits, add rest days and read the warning signs |
| You wanted the limit raised mid-month | The limit is doing its job | Wait several days before deciding anything, and talk it through with someone |
| Money meant for a bill went on gambling | The budget is no longer protecting you | Ask Springbok about self-exclusion and call 0800 006 008 |
Be honest with yourself here; nobody else sees the answers. If the same row keeps coming up, that pattern is worth more attention than any single month.
When a budget is not enough
Budgets help people who are in control and want to stay that way. They are much weaker against chasing losses, borrowing to play or hiding what you spend. If any of those sound familiar, a longer break and a conversation will do more than a lower number.
Springbok says it arranges self-exclusion for a period of your choice, with a minimum of one month. SARGF says NRGP counselling is free and confidential, with eight outpatient sessions after an assessment. Our guide to NRGP counselling explains how to get started. As SARGF's slogan puts it: Winners know when to stop.
Questions people ask
How much of my income should go on gambling?
We do not suggest a percentage. Start from what is left once rent, food, transport, debts, bills and savings are paid, and give gambling only a slice of that spending money. Some months the honest amount is R0.
What is a sensible daily deposit limit?
Divide your monthly amount by the days you expect to play. The planner does this for you, rounding down to the nearest R10 for amounts of R50 or more a day.
Can Springbok set a daily and a monthly limit?
Springbok says it sets daily or monthly deposit limits by contacting Springbok. Ask for both in one message; if only one is possible, keep the monthly limit.
Does the planner save my numbers or username?
No. The planner works inside your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent, and it is gone when you close or refresh the page.
What if I keep going over my gambling budget?
Lower the limits first. If that does not hold, ask Springbok about self-exclusion, which it says has a minimum of one month, and call the NRGP on 0800 006 008.
